So I finally went to an exhibition, I really enjoyed it and it made me realise how stupid I am for not going as much as I can, I'm only 20 mins away from St Pancras and I hardly ever go exploring. The Future fashion now exhibition was really interesting, it reminded me of one of the exhibitions we went to in New York (I'll remember the name one day and put it in this gap!) showcasing garments from students and designers. Not only was it fashion from present day but it even dated back to victorian pieces and so on. It was an inspiring visit and it's made me realise that maybe I should be a bit more adventurous when I do construction and to make sure that I experiment much more, it doesn't hurt to try something new even if at the end I don't like it!

I love this dress so much, it was the first one I was drawn to and reminds me of one of my Moms which I love to bits! Gudrun Kloepsch is the designer and its inspiration was traditional hand techniques; pleats, folds, pin tucking, gathering. It combines manipulated fabrics with beautiful lace panels and tiny intricate layered effects. The fabrics used are silk, rubberm coated cottons, lurex and rope. I think it is fantastic!!!
I think next term will be the start of a new experimental approach, but still keeping my most loved understated style/ approach to fashion, naturally!

Another favourite. This is probably more of a source of inspiration rather than desire. I am so attracted to quirky additions to understated and simple fabrics/ colours, as well as this I love simplicity in fashion, especially when put on oversized or exaggerated and different shapes. So this really stood out to me because of the huge zip and the gorgeous shape of the two dresses. I love how they look like they are solid, I also love how she has made paper toiles! The necklace is beautiful too. These two pieces are created by Abbie Shaw, a student who colaborated with another student doing jewellery making. I want one!
I thought these were pretty cool, maybe not so much aesthetically, but more on the experimentation side to approaching fabrics and made me think about broadening my choices of fabrics as I seem to live in jersey and cardigans. Eva Nip created these after being inspired from hard-wearing outdoor materials such as sailing equiptment, tarpaulins and motorbike covers, I immediately thought of pop up tents when I saw the first image in the exhibition and was surprised to see this wasn't one of the obvious inspirations on the list. Pretty cool and something to think about I guess!
Really love the detail on this Lacroix dress. I think it is absolutely gorgeous, I love the rouching and draping on the lower skirt and beautiful detail at the top of the dress.
There are more pictures too, but these are my faves, and the others aren't that great quality. All in all I had a really nice day. For some stupid reason I get a bit shy about going to galleries alone, probably because most people are quite pretentious. However I had a really lovely time and I'm going to make it a hobby. I don't do things like this enough at all.
